"We are doomed to be attached to space and time and to experience the fullness of our existence throughout eternity."
Clad in Scales is a new release from (Russian) electronic music producer Neotnas. Actually this is not really an album or EP, but part of a larger story called 'Metanoia'. It was conceived in 2020 and became a kind of reaction to the difficult times that everyone had to face.
Neotnas this time moves away from electronic dance music towards darker and more minimalistic tracks, which are closer in spirit to his cinematic works (such as the soundtracks for silent films “Das Cabinet des Dr Caligari” and “Faust” made by him earlier).
The record also features two tracks from Neotnas' earliest period: Mok (2003) and Vur (2004), which have never been released in these versions anytime before. These minimalistic ambient pieces are the very point at which the musician’s past and present converge, and his artistic style is rethought and consolidated.
There are no pure dance forms of electronic music typical of previous Neotnas releases on this record. Here we have the opportunity to see the other side of the project, the same one with which it all began 20 years ago, when Neotnas was started.
